Delme-Radcliffe was born in Hitchen. He went up to Trinity from Eton and came down to begin his career at St Saviour Bermondsey. He came to St John's after incumbencies at Holwell and Barnwell.

Ivor Lewis was educated at Queen's College Birmingham and ordained in 1930. After curacies in Upper Clapton and Isleworth he was Rector of Burringham before coming to St John's.
