Commemorative Plaque - Bayswater Road, London
Tyburn Convent is a cloistered community of benedictine contemplatives who live by the ancient monastic Rule of St. Benedict. Tyburn, which is close to Marble Arch, was the site of ' The King's Gallows' from 1196 to 1783. The community was established at the site of the martyrdom of more than 100 Catholic Reformation Martyrs by Mother Marie Adele Garnier under the rule of St Benedict in 1901 after the community had fled to England as a result of persecution under the laws of France against religious Orders. The convent is now the Mother House of the congregation which has monasteries throughout the UK, Australasia,Peru, Ecuador and in Colombia.

The Chapel, Tyburn Convent
This is an enclosed order of nuns who seldom leave the premises, except in emergencies, and so the gate to the chapel would normally be locked. Here, it is open for members of the public, attending morning Mass, to receive Holy Communion.
Although so near to Marble Arch, little disturbs the calm of this place except the periodic rumble of tube trains passing below. The community do have a garden at the rear where they grow plants and vegetables, as well housing some poultry and a hive of bees.
