All trains to West Ruislip leave from Marylebone – except the 11.36 from Paddington (Mondays to Fridays only). The train arrives in Paddington from South Ruislip, having left there at 11.02.
This is one of the so-called “Parliamentary” or “ghost” trains – services which have been reduced to a bare minimum, without closing the service, so as to avoid the costs associated with closure https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parliamentary_train .
This train does, however, also serve the purpose of maintaining the route knowledge of Chiltern Railways drivers, enabling the company to divert services to Paddington in case Marylebone is closed for engineering or other reasons.
Over the past few years, this train has started in Princes Risborough (2006), started in Gerrards Cross and returned to Princes Risborough (2007), gone from Paddington to High Wycombe only (2010), started from and returned to Gerrards Cross (2011), and started in Gerrards Cross and returned to West Ruislip (2012).
A full list of parliamentary trains can be found on the PSUL (Passenger Train Services over Unusual Lines) website http://www.psul4all.free-online.co.uk/intro.htm .

Entrance to Paddington railway station from Praed Street
Paddington railway station, also known as London Paddington, was built in 1838 as the London terminus of the original Great Western Railway (GWR). The crest at the top of the awning is that of the GWR, a combination of the arms of London (on the left) and Bristol, the original two termini of the GWR.
