Farmer Street
Seen from Notting Hill Gate. The road is closed off to through traffic and the stump provides a handy solo-motorcycles parking bay. Beyond is the junction with Uxbridge Street. In the distance, the buildings at the end of the road are on Hillgate Place. The streets and houses date to circa 1860 (Uxbridge Street and this end of Farmer Street were present on the 1850 map but without buildings).

Campden Hill Tower and United House, Notting Hill Gate
People associate this area, if they think about it at all, with stucco terraces, bijou boutiques and Hugh Grant, but the area around the tube station is liberally dotted with 1960s concrete, redeveloped by Cotton Ballard & Blow for the London County Council in 1962. A straightforward stone block, offices above shops, with pale-blue spandrels, and the dominant tower behind (Image]).
