Oxford Gardens
Terraces of imposing, large houses along here, with front doors on the first floor over a sunken ground floor, then two more floors with loft space above by the look of the little window at the end.

Facades on Ladbroke Grove
I know I should have waited for a complete break in the traffic, but if I had, I'd probably still be there. The tree-lined Ladbroke Grove carries the B450, and this terrace is between Cambridge and Oxford Gardens on the west side of the road.

Westway by Ladbroke Grove
Until Transport for London in the early 2000s this was the A40(M) motorway with a 60mph speed limit. It turned out TfL didn't have power over motorways so they downgraded it to an A road, removed the street lighting and dropped the limit to 40. Don't ask me why, it worked perfectly well for around 40 years exactly as it was but TfL have dropped the speed limit on nearly every trunk road by 10-20mph. The backs of the houses are on Cambridge Gardens.

Victorian Penfold type postbox (1), corner of Ladbroke Grove & Oxford Gardens, Kensington, London
This is one of the postboxes designed by the architect J.W. Penfold and as can be seen they are quite ornate. They were manufactured by Cochrane & Co of Dudley, Worcestershire from 1866 to 1879, so this one has been is use for over 135 years. Today there are thought to be only about 92 surviving with two "clusters", where there are several - one in Cheltenham and the other here in Kensington. Much later replicas were manufactured in 1988-89 by another firm for use in historic and tourist locations. The box photographed here is an original.
Postbox no. W10 14. Post code: W10 5UF. Last collection: 5.30 p.m. Monday to Friday; 12 noon Saturday.
The box can be seen in location here:-
