The arches in the brick wall are sluice or mill race outlets for mills which were in the empty space here, there were several mill buildings, not all survive.

Copper Mill Lock No 84, Grand Union Canal, Middlesex
This is an extremely pleasant section of canal. 'The Fisheries' public house is nearby, (on the road behind the photographer), and can provide meals as well as good beer.
