Redcar Close, Petts Hill - former Northolt Park Racecourse
1200 houses were built from 1951 on an area developed in 1929 for pony racing. The racecourse company went into receivership in 1937, after the 2nd World War Ealing council needed land for housing. The racing fraternity tried to retain a course, but the housing went ahead - some of it built for Harrow council. Street names are those of racecourses - Cheltenham, Thirsk, Ascot, Ripon, etc. View from Mandeville Road, looking across the park to houses at the end of Redcar Close.
