Southall: Chevy Road and the Comer Crescent arch
This land was once occupied by 20th century buildings belonging to St Bernard's Hospital, but while the original lunatic asylum buildings from the 1830s are largely intact, all the 20th century ones have been demolished and replaced with housing. The roundabout is at the junction of Chevy Road with Navigator Drive, while further up Chevy Road the Comer Crescent arch is visible.

Hanwell: St Bernard's Hospital
St Bernard's Hospital, once the Middlesex County Lunatic Asylum and the first purpose-built asylum in England and Wales, was opened in 1831. There is a comprehensive history of the place in its Wikipedia article here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanwell_Asylum The building is Grade II Listed but only the original structure. Numerous wings and other appendages were built as time went by, and, unfortunately and unerringly, the photographer has selected one of these to record.
