Avenue Road is parallel to and the next road to the east of South Road, the main shopping street in Southall. It is a useful and quiet by-pass for anyone wanting to avoid South Road.

Cleaning the route of the procession
It's important that the route of the procession to celebrate Vaisakhi (Sikh new year) is clean and clear of litter. A team of men and women sweep the road before the procession arrives. Following the sweepers came a man spraying the tarmac with water (or possibly antiseptic?).

This must be one of the most colourful days in the calendar. Vaisakhi is the Sikh new year, and many people wear orange (the background of the Sikh flag).
