Kew Gardens station, footbridge
Built in 1912, this is a very early example of the use of reinforced concrete in Britain.
The last steam train passed long ago, but the bridge still carries deflectors to channel smoke away from the bridge and pedestrians crossing it; likewise, the very high parapets (about ten feet above the pedestrian deck at the centre) shield persons crossing the bridge from billowing smoke.
