'The London Apprentice', Church Street, Old Isleworth
An unconventional view of Old Isleworth's best-known landmark - seen here from the Thames foreshore at low-tide. High spring-tides can cause problems for traffic up in Church Street: Image

Georgian houses in Church Street, Isleworth riverside
No uniformity about this row of Georgian houses. The one nearest the camera has Gothic details, the next along has fine wrought-iron work, Cheltenham style - and Ionic columns at second-floor level. The rather plain white-painted building at the far end of the row can also be seen in: Image In the right foreground, notice what appear to be steps built up from kerb-stones. This feature is in fact a very local flood-defence measure, intended to prevent flooding of these properties along Church Street. You go up the four steps, then down two to the footway on the other side.

The London Apprentice
One of the capital's oldest riverside pubs. It has been used by monarchs - including Henry VIII, Charles I and II. It gets its name from being frequented by successful apprentices returning from the Guilds in London.
