Statue to Alcock and Brown outside the Heathrow Academy
The inscription at the base of the statue says "Sir John Alcock and Sir Arthur Whitten Brown who made the first direct flight across the Atlantic. St John's Newfoundland - Clifden Ireland 14th - 15th June 1919." Appropriately it is placed outside the Heathrow Academy (formerly the Visitor Centre). Nearby is a covered viewing stand for non-passengers looking on to the North Runway. This is the best viewpoint for the North Runway whereas the best viewpoint for the South Runway is at Myrtle Avenue - see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3338755
