River Thames: Eel Pie Island
Once known as Twickenham Ait, and about 1,800 feet or about 500 metres long, the island was only reachable by boat until 1957, when a footbridge was built. This footbridge, built in 1998, replaced that one.

Thames Eyot, Twickenham
Not an island in the river, but a large block of flats. Surprisingly, it is not a converted institution but a purpose-built block, dating from 1935.
