Ham Lands nature reserve
The housing estate at Ham built in the 1960s stopped a couple of hundred metres short of the river, leaving a margin of common land, which is now categorised as a nature reserve, hopefully thereby avoiding future building along the river front.

Willows for the chop
The mature willow trees seen here (one in full view, the other adjacent to the photographer) can be dated quite precisely as they were planted at the time of construction of the adjacent church Image - 1964. So they grew for 48 years, but due to their roots repeatedly blocking nearby drains permission has been given for them to be felled and replaced with a smaller species of tree.
