Fish Sands
A small area of beach on the Headland. Dominating the skyline is the church of St, Hildas. The white building on the right is the pub "The Harbour of Refuge" which refers to an ambitious early 19th century scheme to build large breakwaters across the bay to provide shelter for sailing ships in times of bad weather. The main reason why the scheme was abandoned was cost. In today's money it would have cost £40 million. With the advent of steam shipping the need for an harbour of refuge lessened.
