High Street, Stockton ? 1968
Then as now, High Street was the principal bus departure location in the town, although there has been substantial revision to the road layout https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6216537. Northern General bus 2103 is just leaving on the long route 55 to Newcastle. Northern was the only operator other than London Transport to purchase Routemaster buses – 50 in total between in 1964/5, although they were distinguished from the London standard by having forward entrances rather than open platform rear entrances. This is one of a series of views featuring buses in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=137652761

Pedestrian area on Stockton High Street
Wide pedestrian area in Castlegate. Many of the large department stores to the east of the High Street have closed and there is a plan to demolish them and create a five-acre park with trees, art installations and a land-bridge to the River Tees.
