The Old Chapel, Portloe
Grade II Listed mid 19th century former non-conformist chapel. Possibly built in the early 1840s, Mevagissey Bible Christian Circuit Baptisms are recorded in 1842 at Portloe and 1847 at Portloe Chapel. By the 1990’s the congregations of Portloe’s church and chapel were finding it difficult to maintain the fabric of both buildings and on 17 May 1992 the congregation moved to the All Saints Church. Widow of writer Roald Dahl, Felicity, transformed the derelict chapel around 2000 and sold it in 2008.

Looking east from The Gow. The chapel was founded as a Bible Christian Church, a Methodist denomination founded in 1815 by Wesleyan preacher William O'Bryan. The chapel was home to Portloe Methodist Church more recently, but now the Methodists and Anglicans meet together as Portloe United Church.
