Old Milestone West of Probus
Carved stone post by the UC road, in parish of PROBUS (CARRICK District), halfway up hill, close to road edge, on North side of road. Truro stone, erected by the Truro turnpike trust in the 18th century. Inscription reads:- FROM TRURO 5 MILES Carved benchmark on lower front face. Grade II listed. The milestone is located half way up the hill, close to the road edge on the north side of road. Parish of Probus (Carrick District). Milestone at Tresowga
The destinations on the milestone, Bodmin and London, indicate that this road used to be the main route from Truro to the capital. The bridge in the background carries the Penzance to London mainline railway.
