Davy Statue, Market Jew Street, Penzance
Monument to Sir Humphry Davy Bt (1778-1829). Davy was a brilliant chemist and member of the Royal Institution and Royal Society but is probably best known for his invention of the Davy Lamp, which enabled miners to safely illuminate their work underground without the risk of igniting explosive gases which might be present. The statue was erected in 1872 and was made by W & T Wills of London from white marble.

Penzance: Market Jew Street
The main shopping street in the town, once part of the A30 before the days of the by-pass. The street splits into two levels passing either side of the Market House behind us (see Image) and a ramp between the two forms an intermediate third level for a short distance.
