South Crofty Tin Mine
This was a large mine, delving deep into the earth first following the lodes into the 'killas' then granite (Carn Brea granite). New Cook's shaft was named after the mine owner said the lode was as wide as his kitchen!
Closed in 1997, the last tin mine in Europe. However money is being invested at the moment in reopening the enterprise for tin and possibly rare earth elements.
The shaft and 1950s bins etc face an uncertain future as the new mine would be accessed via an incline.

Derelict headgear of South Crofty Mine
This is on the New Cook's Kitchen Shaft. South Crofty is undergoing development work in 2023 with the hope of once again being able to win minerals from the site.

South Crofty Mine, Camborne
The headgear is on New Cook's Kitchen Shaft. This mine was the last tin producer in Cornwall (ignoring minor stream works) and finally closed in 1998. However interest and activity have continued and re-opening is not out of the question. There used to be a massive concrete engine house on this shaft (I think I saw it in the early 1980s) that housed a beam pumping engine that worked into the 1950s but was stopped by a broken beam.

Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
These are to look good rather than produce a serious amount of electricity. However I like them. Only one for Heartlands although solar PV cells are everywhere.
