William Murdoch's House, Redruth
In 1784 Murdoch built and demonstrated a miniature steam locomotive. Two years earlier he had arranged for his house to be gas lit, using piped coal gas, possibly the first house in the world to be so illuminated. The house is now a museum and meeting place for local societies.
