This road used to be a through road

The re-erected remains of the 1897 Worsley Mesnes duplex steam winding engine seen from inside the 1860 engine house for the beam pumping engine. The pumping engine and winding engine both worked in the same shaft. Alongside is a re-erected Cornish boiler which is from the Toldish Mine at Fraddon and was secondhand there in the 1880s. The flue is offset rather than central - a feature claimed to improve water circulation.

A long story. This Worsley Mesnes horizontal duplex steam winder (then complete) was installed here in 1897 but following closure in 1921 was transferred to the New Roskear Shaft in 1924 and worked there until 1929. It then lay disused. In 1980 the cylinders and lighter motion parts were taken to Astley Green Colliery, Greater Manchester by the Red Rose Society. These parts were stolen from there and the project to relocate the winder was abandoned and it lay in its roofless house for a few more years (a quarter of a century at least). It was finally re-installed here, on its original bed, in 2009.

Built 1860 to house a 60 inch Cornish beam pumping engine by Perran Foundry. This was later recylindered to 65 inch. Dolcoath closed in 1921 but was unsuccessfully reopened with the sinking of the New Roskear Shaft. In 1936 it was acquired by South Crofty and was part of Cornwall's last tin mine of the twentieth century.
