Repairs to one of the western spires
When Truro Cathedral was built just over 100 years ago, much of the decorative stonework was carved from porous sandstone which has not withstood the salt Cornish air. Urgent repairs were needed as the spires were in a dangerous condition, and in 2004/5 the two western towers, which stand at the High Cross end of the cathedral, were shrouded in scaffolding. The man at the top may be praising God or exclaiming at the view, but is probably just fixing a scaffolding pole.
The central tall tower is still awaiting repair.

Scaffolding over the western spires
Urgent repairs being carried out on the spires of Truro Cathedral. Although only 100 years old, the stone was being badly eroded by the salt air and was in a dangerous condition. The blue plastic shrouding caught the December sunlight and gave the temporary illusion of a couple of elegant glass & concrete skyscrapers. The little cloud of smoke emanating from one of them is, however, completely harmless.
