Building, Dendy Road, Paignton
A design that sits ill with historic Paignton, but reflects the fact that local authorities planning committees simply reflect our cultural and aesthetic values and rarely dare to challenge the orthodoxy with all its financial power. I believe that it is/was a telephone exchange, but I am not certain.

Flagged, Paignton
The Great Gorilla "Flagged" was designed by Penny Robson, and features ten African representing the regions where gorillas are found http://www.greatgorillas.org.uk/gorillas/details/23. It stands in Victoria Street, Paignton's main shopping street.

Pedestrianisation in Paignton
The cairn commemorates the pedestrianisation of Victoria Street in central Paignton. The scheme was completed in 2002, the year of the Queen's golden jubilee.

View along Victoria Street, Paignton
There were objections from traders when it was proposed to pedestrianise Victoria street in Paignton. However, the disappearance of the car from the shopping street has made shopping a much more pleasant experience. It is encouraging as a pedestrian to be able to occupy the road which formerly was an area of risk to negotiate. Now it is possible to appreciate the design of the buildings and indeed the whole street. The absence of cars is greatly to be desired. Now they despoil our residential areas.

Inventive tourist attraction, Hyde Road, Paignton
An unusual idea to interest the very bored holidaymaker, but it might be the solution to a rainy day at the seaside. I don't think the kids would be amused for long, though. At least it seems to be free; I noticed a place in Torquay that was charging £3.99, and you only got to watch batteries being fitted there.
