There were objections from traders when it was proposed to pedestrianise Victoria street in Paignton. However, the disappearance of the car from the shopping street has made shopping a much more pleasant experience. It is encouraging as a pedestrian to be able to occupy the road which formerly was an area of risk to negotiate. Now it is possible to appreciate the design of the buildings and indeed the whole street. The absence of cars is greatly to be desired. Now they despoil our residential areas.
