Froude Avenue
This avenue is named after William Froude, born in 1810.
He was an engineer who worked for Isambard Kingdom Brunel on the great western Railway Project. Later he moved into ship designing for Brunel.
The photograph is taken from the junction with Brunel Avenue, and shows pollarded trees, which are quite common around this location, being part of Brunel's Watcombe Park estate.

Brunel Woods, Watcombe
Part of the Watcombe Park estate laid out by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. One of the original trees, a 65 foot Sequoia redwood, was felled by the 1990 storms and has been crafted into a large four piece memorial to Brunel.
