This avenue is named after William Froude, born in 1810. He was an engineer who worked for Isambard Kingdom Brunel on the great western Railway Project. Later he moved into ship designing for Brunel. The photograph is taken from the junction with Brunel Avenue, and shows pollarded trees, which are quite common around this location, being part of Brunel's Watcombe Park estate.
