Now a shop with accommodation above, number 7 Court Street was probably originally part of a larger house which may have included number 5. Built in the early 17th century with early 19th century alterations and a mid 19th century extension. A part of a row of early houses that have survived. Number 5 Court Street was probably originally part of a larger house which may have included number 7. Built in the early 17th century with early 19th century alterations. At one time a shop window was inserted but the property was later remodelled as a house, A part of a row of early houses that have survived. Moretonhampstead houses [17]
Number 3 Court Street was the higher one room part of a house with the hall and other room now number 1. Built in the 15th or early 16th century, the house was separated from number 1 in the early 19th century. The house has smoke blackened roof timbers - something rare in towns. Moretonhampstead: The Bowring Library
This library, which is in Fore Street, was given to the town by Sir Thomas Bowring, whose business was in shipping but whose family fortune was founded on the woollen trade. The library was completed in 1902 to a design by Sylvanus Trevail. It continues to be in use as the local library today.
