Chalfont/Broadwater, The Ridge, Winchelsea Beach
Contrasting styles of housing. Chalfont is the newer building on the left whilst Broadwater is to the right. Both were built after World War Two though Chalfont has since been modernised or rebuilt.

The Ridge
The line of houses in the background follow the line of an old sea wall that marked the high water limit of the beach at the beginning of the 19th century. The green mark in the field marks the route of Nook Drain.

Upper Nook
The name of the field according to Icklesham's 1845 tithe map that is located to the south of The Ridge. The nook was a former creek that had been formed between shingle ridges.
