A Former Carriage Drive, Ashburnham Place
This trackway is part of what is left of a former carriage drive from Battle to Ashburnham Place. Immediately behind camera are Ashburnham Lodge and Gates.

Ashburnham Lodge and Gates
The Lodge is Grade II listed and mid-19th century. It is associated with a former carriage drive for Ashburnham Place. The Gate Piers, wrought iron Gates and Pavilions are also Grade II listed and are designed by Robert Adam. The central overthrow contains the design of a tree and a coronet, and the piers are surmounted by greyhounds.

Pevsner says that the lodge here is Tudor, but the gates, the walls and the pavilions are by Robert Adam. He goes on to say that "The design of the gates is of exquisite elegance and economy of ornament." The 1066 Country Walk passes through this impressive entrance to Ashburnham Park.
