Tree cutting sign in front of path at 1 Orchard Way
The figure on the sign seems to be trying to cut a tree with a shovel! Needless to say, there was no sign of any tree cutting along the path behind the sign. The scene here has recently changed considerably. See picture taken on 30 October 2016: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5173594

Barren strawberry in a crack between kerb and drive
This barren strawberry (Potentilla sterilis) has managed to survive in a very unpromising looking spot in Orchard Way. It is a little more hairy than wild strawberry and the most distal leaf lobe is normally smaller than those on either side of it. The black lichens above and to the right of the barren strawberry are probably a Collema sp.

Tutsan with ripe fruit, Balcombe Green
This plant of tutsan (Hypericum androsaemum) grows along the path between Balcombe Green and Orchard Way. The fruits change to red and then black as they ripen and are poisonous. Tutsan is listed as an indicator of ancient woodland, but it grows in many non-woodland situations in East Sussex.
