Footpath sign with chives, Brede Lane
The grass-like plant in front of this sign is a clump of the herb chives (Allium schoenoprasum). Possibly a garden throw out or self-sown from a garden, it is almost certainly not a native species in Sedlescombe.

Gladdon, Brede Lane
A plant of gladdon or stinking iris (Iris foetidissima) on the north bank of Brede Lane and with some orange red winter fruit. This native species occurs here and there in Sedlescombe, often in the wild but also in gardens. The 'stinking' part of the name is not very marked and the plant has sometimes been called the 'roast beef plant', though it does not smell like that to me.

Large troupe of toadstools by a Sedlescombe footpath
These small toadstools are fairy inkcaps (Coprinellus disseminatus) growing by the narrow path from Brede Lane to Gorselands. They can be distinguished from the similar Psathyrella pygmaea by the minute hairs on the caps.
