Gladdon, Brede Lane

A plant of gladdon or stinking iris (Iris foetidissima) on the north bank of Brede Lane and with some orange red winter fruit. This native species occurs here and there in Sedlescombe, often in the wild but also in gardens. The 'stinking' part of the name is not very marked and the plant has sometimes been called the 'roast beef plant', though it does not smell like that to me.
