Rye/East Sussex, Cinque Ports Street
Rye/East Sussex, Cinque Ports Street seen from Tower Street, A268. Rye is a small town in East Sussex, England, which stands approximately 3 km from the open sea and is at the confluence of three rivers: the Rother, the Tillingham and the Brede. In medieval times, however, as an important member of the Cinque Ports confederation, it was at the head of an embayment of the English Channel and almost entirely surrounded by the sea.

Cattle Market, Rye
The weekly market is in the process of packing up after a days trading. The plot of land that is located between Station Approach and Rope Tackle was acquired by the town in the 1850s for the purpose of hosting cattle markets. It opened in 1859 and included the building beyond. It continued operating until the start of the 21st century when the foot and mouth epidemic of 2001 made it uneconomic to continue. The Rye Cattle Market Company still own the site and are responsible for the weekly Thursday market, the rest of the week the site is a privately run car park, by far the cheapest in town, and being next to the station fills up very quickly.
