Summer at The Vine
The bandstand is situated on the edge of the Vine Cricket Ground. Sevenoaks bandstand was erected in 1894 for summer musical events and it has continued to be used in this purpose ever since. It was refurbished in 2014. Band concerts are held throughout the summer on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. On this very hot Sunday afternoon the Sevenoaks & Tonbridge Concert Band were playing. Nearest to the camera is the cafe which was doing good business on this afternoon. The cricket pavilion beyond, which is the home to The Vine Cricket Club, was erected in 1850. The Vine Cricket ground is one of the oldest in existence and was given to the town by the 3rd Duke of Dorset in about 1778. The first fully reported match took place here in 1734.
