Buildwas Abbey - May 2018 (1)
Founded in 1135 by Roger de Clinton, Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield, Buildwas Abbey was dissolved in 1536 during the first round of King Henry VIII's suppression of the monasteries. Granted to Sir Edward Grey, Lord Powis, the abbey was for a time a grand Tudor mansion, but eventually reduced to a tenanted farm. It passed to the State in 1925 and is now in the care of English Heritage. Additional information may be found: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/buildwas-abbey/ and all queries should be directed through this web site.
