Another pub to let, well off the beaten track. There simply aren't the local drinkers to keep these pubs alive, and passing trade is negligible.

Photographed from the bridge over Horsehay & Dawley Railway Station, part of which can be seen in this view. The line in this direction is already constructed for much of the way to Doseley Halt, as it was required for works trains to remove spoil from the northern extension to Lawley Common. However, in the direction to Doseley Halt, the track it is not yet up to the standard required to run passenger services. Going beyond the halt to Lightmoor, requires legal powers to cross a public road, and of course the money to finance the extension. If this happens, then the line will eventually be re-instated, where it is shown in this photo by Row17:- Image Longer term, there are hopes that the line could eventually cross the River Severn and terminate at Buildwas. However there are lots of things that need to happen before that could become a reality. Image Image

This Ruston diesel loco was being worked on in the loco shed, when photographed. Ruston Hornsby used to be a major manufacturer of standard and narrow gauge railway locomotives, but following takeovers and mergers, that side of the business was dropped, and today the company no longer exists. However its Lincoln works, owned by Siemens, today manufactures gas turbines. Image

A mixture of old and new in this view, taken from alongside the loco shed. Old adverts of long ago, an old light (or maybe a replica), CCTV cameras on the top of the grey post, and the track for the narrow gauge steam tram.

This building dates from 1860, and was designed as a goods transhipment shed, which had originally permitted the transfer of goods from the Severn Junction Railway, to the Coalbrook Company's narrow gauge plateway system. For the last 30 years or so, the Telford Steam Railway has used the building as their loco shed. Coming out of the main door can be seen a railway line. This goes across the lane known as Pool Side by a level crossing, to connect with the rest of the Telford Steam Railway. Image Image

The 0-4-0 steam tram, built in 1977, has a vertical boilered stream engine, part of which came from a much earlier one built by H Guy & Co. Ltd., for a Victorian launch. It has a single cylinder and chain drive to both axles. It is seen here about to leave the area by the loco shed, to return back to the starting point near the entrance. Image

These buildings, and the old staff canteen across the road (now Horsehay Village Hall) are what remains of the Horsehay Works of the Coalbrookdale Company.

The level crossing, across this very minor road, is required for vehicles to be transferred between the loco shed and the rest of the railway. This probably doesn't happen very often, but when it does, the two white gates are swung out across the road, to warn road traffic to stop. Behind the gate on the left, is Spring Village Railway Station, which currently is the main station on the railway, and where passenger trains commence.
