Trench Crossing station
Two months after the Wellington to Stafford railway was closed under the Beeching plan, BR Standard loco. 76039 is seen here passing through the now-closed Trench Crossing station. The line remained open for goods for some time between Wellington and the Central Ordnance Depot at Donnington, but then closed completely and is now lifted.

Old Station House, Trench Crossing 2009
As the rail link to the Donnington Freight Depot is now in use again the rail crossing has been re-instated. I bet the heavy freight locos make the crockery rattle when they pass! The house in 2003 here--

Bedford OWB at Trench
The Bedford OWB was produced during the war years. It has slatted wooden seating and a Bedford petrol engine. By 1964, not many survived, but this example, in the ownership of Eagle Coaches, was caught passing Trench Post Office on a local service.

Eagle Coaches garage, Trench
This shows the small garage of Smith's Eagle Coaches, with one of their two Bedford OWBs and a luxurious Burlingham-bodied AEC Reliance coach. Apart from their coaching interests, the firm also participated in the local bus service between Wellington and Donnington, via Trench.

Relaid Railway Track, Trench Crossing
The rail line to the new Donnington freight depot has now been relaid and is due to come into full use again in late April or early May 2009. The track was lifted in 1999 when the link to the Army Depot at Donnington was declared redundant.
See the line in the early 60's shortly after the through line to Stafford was closed.

The Blue Pig
I have tried to duplicate the same view as the older photograph on this square. The Shrewsbury canal has long gone, and the height of the incline plane much reduced.

Trench Branch, Shropshire Union Canal, near Trench Lock
This shows the branch below the foot of Trench Inclined Plane. The canal has been derelict for many years. The disused iron works on the left has still not been cleared away. A dual carriageway now obscures all of this area.
