Milestone, Holyhead Road, Oakengates
One of Thomas Telford's original milestones from the 1820's, still in position but sinking down, on the Holyhead Road (old A5) at Oakengates. In fact it is not made of stone but cast-iron, should it be a 'mileiron' ?

Hartshill Bus station, Oakengates
Although only a small town, Oakengates had, in the 1960s, two small bus stations. Here in the Hartshill station, a Bedford of G. Cooper waits with a local service to Priorslee. It is a pity this picture was in black and white, as Cooper used a brilliant orange livery, with a brown stripe.

Cast iron post by the B5061 (was A5), in parish of WROCKWARDINE (TELFORD AND WREKIN District), Holyhead Road; Oakengates, between junction of Station Fields and No. 40 in hedgerow, on East side of road. Erected by the Watling Street, Wellington District turnpike trust in the 19th century.
