Horse statue, Hawick
Statue commemorating the successful repulse of an English raid in 1514, a year after the battle of Flodden. It seems the men of Hawick salvaged some Scottish honour not long after the kingdom's most disastrous military defeat (though I suspect Borderers would claim it as theirs alone). While the Hawick dialect is known to be tricky, not to say impenetrable to outsiders, the inscription on this statue seems positively Klingon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teribus_ye_teri_odin

Equestrian statue, Hawick
Details of the statue Image, which was:-
Erected to commemorate the return
of Hawick Callants from Horsehole in
1514, when, after the Battle of Flodden
they routed the English Marauders
and captured their flag
Horsehole is in Image, about 3.5km down the Teviot from here, but a long way from Flodden.

The auction was clearly unsuccessful - this 'building at risk' still appears empty 3+ years later Image The Memorial stone records that it was laid by Mrs J.T. Laing on October 6th, 1894.
