A symbolic gravestone at Hobkirk Parish Churchyard
This stone near the west boundary wall displays a symbol of immortality in the form of a winged soul, while the horizontal hourglass, skull and bones are all symbols of mortality. Some of the inscription is still legible: Here Lyes William and Archibald Baray’s sons to Walter Baray tenant

Hobkirk Church

A symbolic gravestone at Hobkirk Parish Churchyard
The winged soul at the head of the stone is a symbol of immortality representing the human soul on the journey to Heaven to await the Day of Judgement. The crown and hammer is the symbol of the Hammerman’s Guild.
