This 6-chair dental centre, built at a cost of £1million on the Hawick Community Hospital site Image], became operational on 27/04/09. It was built to address the shortage of NHS dentists in the Borders area and to provide the Borders population with access to NHS dental facilities.

The main entrance at Hawick Community Hospital
This new hospital, operational in July 2005, replaced a 19th century cottage hospital on a restricted site and brought Hawick's other day hospitals onto one site. It stands on the former Victoria Mills site in Victoria Road. The facilities include: Inpatient (24 beds), Rehabilitation, Dental Surgeries, Palliative Care and Day Units.

Famous knitwear
The brand once known throughout the world through sportsmen like David Beckham and Jack Nicklaus has not been manufactured in Scotland for more than a decade and only has an outlet store in Hawick, the town of its birth. The great majority of its output now comes from abroad, although a few lines are manufactured for them by the venerable local firm of William Lockie (1872) who are still going strong.
(Customers in Paris or New York or Beijing no doubt believe they are buying 100% traditional Scottish woollens but, sadly, that would be an illusion.)
