The brand once known throughout the world through sportsmen like David Beckham and Jack Nicklaus has not been manufactured in Scotland for more than a decade and only has an outlet store in Hawick, the town of its birth. The great majority of its output now comes from abroad, although a few lines are manufactured for them by the venerable local firm of William Lockie (1872) who are still going strong. (Customers in Paris or New York or Beijing no doubt believe they are buying 100% traditional Scottish woollens but, sadly, that would be an illusion.)
