Commemorative plaque to 'Old Mortality', Hawick
A closer look at the plaque shown in Image
Now at the edge of a recent housing development, the plaque was presumably taken from a now demolished building. It commemorates the birthplace of Robert Paterson, a stonemason born near here in 1712 who inspired Sir Walter Scott's 'Old Mortality', one of the Waverley novels published in 1816.

Hawick from the air
Most of the town can be seen in this view from a Glasgow bound flight from Prague at around 19,000 feet overhead. The River Teviot is the main feature, with Slitrig Water seen joining it from the lower right corner. The A7 road heading north out of the town can be seen at the top.
