Flood-damaged building, Hawick
The building collapsed in flooding in February 2020 when the swollen River Teviot weakened the foundations. Fortunately the occupants had been evacuated beforehand. Hawick has been vulnerable to flooding for some time as the town has grown around the confluence of the Slitrig Water and the Teviot. Extensive flood protection works have now restarted after the break during the Covid-19 lockdown. See also Walter Baxter's photographs taken in March, e.g. Image
