County Buildings, Ettrick Terrace
I believe this is one of the earliest and finest examples of Scottish baronial architecture of the Victorian period. The Council office building housed the Sheriff Court which replaced its predecessor in Market Place. It was one of 10 proposed cost-cutting closures of Sheriff Courts announced by the Scottish Government in 2012. This was a highly controversial decision for those who believe on principle that "justice must be seen to be done" locally and not in a courtroom in another locality to which members of a community are obliged to travel. http://www.selkirkweekendadvertiser.co.uk/news/local-headlines/court-bosses-are-told-selkirk-closure-would-be-sheer-madness-1-2092977 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-22215741
