Castle Gate
This street lies within the medieval walls, but outside the Elizabethan ramparts. By the time these houses were developed, the threat of warfare had receded. As well as being the link between town and castle, it also carried the Great North Road.

House in Tweed Street, Berwick
This house is the 1854 rear-wing extension of a house in Railway Street (Image]), which itself is more modestly-decorated with only (!) three busts. Local sculptor William Wilson, of Tweedmouth, was the creator of the amazing ornamentation shown here - the whole surface is covered with chiselled patterns, there is an acanthus cornice, each of the main windows has a mask on its keystone, the attic-windows have scrolled architraves, and a large stone eagle oversees the whole glorious scene.
