This retail park by the Gala Water occupies the site of the former Comely Bank Mill erected in 1852, named after a row of houses known as Comelybank - see the Canmore web page https://canmore.org.uk/site/99729/galashiels-low-buckholmside-comelybank-mill for more of the history. Viewed from Magdala Terrace with F.M. Composites Ltd factory behind. On the skyline to the left of the chimney is the former Knowepark Hospital, now demolished. The site of the old factory is now Comely Bank Mill Retail Park with outlets such as Matalan and Currys. The factory units beyond have been demolished and the area is now known as Galabank Business Park. This information is from Walter Baxter and his own photograph of the site is here - Image

Comelybank Mill and Chimney
A view from King Street to Comelybank Mill and chimney with housing behind at Magdala Terrace, Halliburton Place and Glendinning Terrace. In 1868 the mill was occupied by Bogue, Lees and Company and it changed from steam to electric power in 1914. The main business of the mill was cloth making but a dyehouse was established in the 1970s. (Mill information source: Galashiels, A Modern History). Thanks to Walter Baxter for accurately locating my pictures and for providing such excellent information.
