Books Plus, Galashiels
This book shop is at 2 Channel Street. After I took this photo I noticed a jackdaw flying into an opening in the moulded box panel at the top right corner of the fascia above the window. Opportunist jackdaws have made a nest here and the young were quite noisy when the adult birds were around.

A jackdaw's nest site at Books Plus, Galashiels
This shows an adult jackdaw about to leave a nest that is located in the boxed end panel in the fascia above the shop window of Books Plus. Despite the relatively low height of the nest and noisy young when the adult birds were around, I am sure that most folk will be unaware of this unusual nest site. A window display at the Italian Job barber?s shop in Galashiels
This side window at 2 Channel Street is festively decorated for Christmas although it looks like Santa could do with a trim. This shop won the ‘Best Barber in Scotland 2014’ competition.

The 2011 Dragon Festival in Galashiels
A good crowd attended the Dragon Festival in Channel Street, Galashiels to celebrate the Chinese New Year and welcome in the Year of the Rabbit. The event was organised by the Borders Chinese Cultural Association, with the main event the Lion Dance performed by the Glasgow Hong Lok Dragon and Lion Dancing Troupe. Two lions were used in the dance and here the white lion walks towards Bank Street after the performance, while the black lion performers are at the far left and right.
