Bower Farm polytunnels, Bridgwater
Viewed from Westonzoyland Road bridge over the M5 motorway. The polytunnels are part of Bower Flowers horticultural centre. A polytunnel is a tunnel made of polyethylene. Similar in function to a cloche or greenhouse, a polytunnel is used to control the temperature and/or moisture levels to provide ideal conditions for the plants inside. They give protection from intense heat or cold, intense sunlight, strong winds, snow and hailstones. Fruit and vegetables inside polytunnels can be grown at times that were previously off-season. Almost every factor influencing a crop can be controlled in a polytunnel.
